Martin Carthy has forged his own personal and unusual approach to fingerstyle guitar. Musician Magazine recently cited him as one of the 100 Greatest Guitarists Of The 20th Century. He has developed his own tunings and right hand techniques to enable him to play British traditional folk music. This body of music is rooted in a vocal tradition of hundreds of years as well as a strong dance culture. It is not bound by any time or bar structure. The guitarist must find ways to explore, reinforce, accent and embellish these melodies. Martin has successfully done this with the C G C D G A tunings. He plays with a heavy percussive attack reminiscent of a country bluesman and the gritty rhythm of a diatonic accordion player. He has a unique sense of phrasing and a strong emotional and atmospheric feel for his music. In this lesson, Martin explains in detail his playing techniques and style for seven of his most popular arrangements. A detailed tab/music instructional booklet is included as a PDF file on the DVD. This was my first ever Hardanger, so I basically wanted a "Squier" version of a Hardanger: an entry level Hardanger to learn on that was new and solid but wouldn't break the bank. This has been pretty much perfect and just what I wanted.I love playing it.
Beautiful amazing instrument! Easy and fun to play! Highly recommended! Great customer service and fast shipping!!
Jackie arrived, nicely packed and in rapid order... much lighter than I expected, thank goodness as the instrument is attached to the player by their thumbs (and mine are kind of old).
I never thought that it would be so challenging for me to learn play ... so different from anything I've tried before... I can feel the neurons in my brain sparking and protesting. Actually, it feels good to build new pathways. The cat is none too pleased with my new endeavor. However, Jackie is a beautiful instrument, well made and of good quality. I'm sure, in time, we'll become the best of friends.
Thanks to all at Lark in the Morning for making my experience so pleasant and trouble free. <3
The external Twin Spot works great on my Irish Bouzouki. I've scotched taped the pickup heads and wires it in place for easy adjustment, and the pick up sensitivity is very good. I'm running it through my guitar DI box for increased sensitivity and tone control.
I think that every household should have a buffalo horn. We are now the proud owners of a fine horn which we obtained from Lark in the morning. It will be handy for calling in the children from play, and signaling to the neighbors across the river.
