Each bugle in this set is crafted from brass with nickel mounts, showing the distinctive warm patina that develops naturally over more than a century of age. The tubing is formed into an elongated, looped profile with a flared bell and decorative ferrule rings along the lead pipe, a hallmark of late 19th-century German military and ceremonial horn making. Overall length across the set ranges from approximately 29 to 30 and a half inches per horn.

This set of four is attributed to Albin Glier of Frankfurt, a notable German instrument maker active in the latter half of the 19th century. Dating to approximately 1890, these horns reflect the height of German brass instrument craft of that era, when workshops in Frankfurt and Markneukirchen were producing finely finished wind instruments for military, court, and theatrical use. Acquiring a matched set of three from this period and maker is a genuine rarity, offering both display value and musical usability.

Care & Maintenance

Antique brass instruments of this age benefit from gentle handling and minimal intervention. The existing patina is a sign of authentic age and is generally best left undisturbed. If cleaning is desired, a soft dry cloth is recommended for light polishing. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners that can strip the original surface. Store upright or horizontally in a stable, dry environment away from direct sunlight and humidity extremes. Mouthpieces should be flushed occasionally with warm water if the instruments are played.
