The Seung is a long-necked, fretted lute from northern Thailand, especially associated with the traditional music of Lanna culture (the former Lanna Kingdom, centered in present-day Chiang Mai). It is an emblematic instrument of northern Thai folk ensembles and is cherished for its bright, resonant tone.

The body is carved from a single piece of hardwood, in this case teak (smells great!). The soundboard is a separate piece of hardwood. It's got raised wooden frets with bone tops, with the nut and bridge from the same combination.

Despite the presence of the traditional wooden tuning pegs, this instrument has modern machine tuners and is strung with 4 plain steel strings in 2 courses, with each course tuned in unison.
