This Thunder Drum features a circular wooden shell frame with notable depth, giving it both structural integrity and a resonant body of air that amplifies and enriches its tone. The goatskin drumhead is stretched taut across the frame and tied together in the back. A light wooden-handled beater with a rounded padded mallet head is included, making this a complete, ready-to-play instrument. 16" x 3".
About This Instrument
Frame drums with rawhide heads represent one of the oldest percussion traditions in the world, and the Thunder Drum draws directly from that lineage. Instruments of this style have been central to Native American musical and ceremonial life for generations, valued for their powerful voice and their connection to the natural world. This drum is suited to players of all experience levels, from those exploring world percussion for the first time to experienced drummers seeking an authentic rawhide instrument for performance or ritual use. Lark in the Morning has carried traditional world percussion instruments since 1974, and this drum reflects that long commitment to authentic craftsmanship.
Care & Maintenance
Rawhide drumheads are sensitive to changes in humidity and temperature. Store the drum in a stable indoor environment away from direct sunlight, excessive heat, and damp conditions. If the head becomes slack in humid weather, gentle warmth from a heat lamp held at a safe distance can help restore tension. Avoid exposing the drum to rain or prolonged moisture. When not in use, store flat or hang vertically in a dry location. Treat the rawhide occasionally with a small amount of natural oil to prevent cracking over time.

Nice sound
This was my first ever Hardanger, so I basically wanted a "Squier" version of a Hardanger: an entry level Hardanger to learn on that was new and solid but wouldn't break the bank. This has been pretty much perfect and just what I wanted.I love playing it.
Beautiful amazing instrument! Easy and fun to play! Highly recommended! Great customer service and fast shipping!!
Jackie arrived, nicely packed and in rapid order... much lighter than I expected, thank goodness as the instrument is attached to the player by their thumbs (and mine are kind of old).
I never thought that it would be so challenging for me to learn play ... so different from anything I've tried before... I can feel the neurons in my brain sparking and protesting. Actually, it feels good to build new pathways. The cat is none too pleased with my new endeavor. However, Jackie is a beautiful instrument, well made and of good quality. I'm sure, in time, we'll become the best of friends.
Thanks to all at Lark in the Morning for making my experience so pleasant and trouble free. <3
The external Twin Spot works great on my Irish Bouzouki. I've scotched taped the pickup heads and wires it in place for easy adjustment, and the pick up sensitivity is very good. I'm running it through my guitar DI box for increased sensitivity and tone control.
